The seventeenth volume of Current Research in Jazz covers bibliography, performance history, and biographical investigations.

An important but underrecognized periodical, The Grackle (1976–1979) was short-lived and not widely disseminated, but its contents are fascinating. The articles are now more readily accessible than ever, and this detailed bibliography should inspire exploration.

The continuing series of chronology research on trumpeter-bandleader Maynard Ferguson focuses on the autumn of 1953 when Ferguson was a small group sideman.

Granville T. Hogan and Wilbert Hogan were, in fact, two drummers, despite what many sources (especially online) say. In an attempt to stem the growing tide of misinformation and confusion, here is the clear evidence.
